Helping Harrison’s At-Risk Families
Pathways to Home is a nonprofit agency established in 1989 (it was previously known as Services to Area Youth). The agency’s primary focus has been to provide free home visitation services to first-time, low-income mothers through the Every Child Succeeds program. This program, facilitated through Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, provides 4,000 home visits to 250 new mothers annually in order to strengthen parenting skills and build healthy, thriving families.
Adding New Services
In SeptemberĀ 2017, Pathways to Home added a new community program, the 24/7 Give & Take Outdoor Pantry. This pantry, constructed using fundraising dollars, provides emergency assistance to residents in imminent need of nonperishable food, household/hygiene products and pet food. Corporate and individual donations, which are often anonymous, sustain the pantry. Community members are able to access items at any time of day and, if interested, are provided with strategies and referral information to assist in achieving long-term self-sufficiency. The Give & Take Pantry has had a successful launch, seeing ten or more visitors daily who either “give what they can or take what they need.”
